Spring is near, I repeat, Spring is near!!! The deer are starting to come out of hiding looking for signs of grass, pheasants fly about on the snow covered fields, birds are beginning to sing and the sun is beginning to feel warm again!
Half of this past weekend we spent at home hiding out from the freezing rain. Temps were cool enough to create a shiny glaze of ice from the rain that fell. We traded spending a day out of the house to a day of multiple naps, movie sessions and a supper of freshly popped popcorn along with Dad’s famous milkshakes. The other half was spent dealing with the not-so-fun part of Spring, which is the winter thaw. Melting snow has creeped into our chicken house creating a nasty mess. The snow packed driveway is now under water.
We spent the day cleaning pens in the coop along with loving up on our new baby chicks that are beginning to feather out. We have 3 hens currently setting. Our cochin pen will go later this Spring. The husband has been toying with the idea of adding a few hogs as well, but we will see on that! We did get our deer meat to the locker in which we will get over 40 packages of deer sticks. That will come in handy for quick snacks all summer long!
This weekend also was time change weekend. I’m not sure the origin of time change, but they apparently didn’t have children that needed to be up for school the next day. I’m sure we will have lots of fits at bedtime this week and many mornings of grumbling. It will all work out- spring is near!
