Hello October! This is our first full week of October- and fall- and first harvest in the new house! The guys have been busy getting beans out, they finished those the other day. They moved on to corn, that will be a bit more tricky! The field in front of our house has sections that is lying flat and twisted. Our North farm faired much worse. I went out to see how it was going and the stalks are just lying flat and whole ears of corn are on the ground once the combine goes over it. Very hard to watch! I thought we may see husband more now that we are at the farm but that hasn’t been the case.

Our week has been busy with volleyball games. I took Kacen to the mailboxes with me today to remove a large mouse nest- (the mama mouse kept running out at me when I checked the mail like I was inconviencing her), but he also found a baby snake on the road- I’m lucky to be alive to tell this story as I am deathly afraid of snak..I can’t even finish the word.

Speaking of farm visitors- we have a pack of coyotes that we’ve been listening to. At first, it was comforting. I remember being little and sleeping upstairs on hot summer nights in my grandparents house with the windows open and listening to the coyotes howl. There sounds like a mama and her babies that usually echo her. Lately though, aside from the normal group, we have a lone coyote who is venturing pretty close to our goose pen. This morning Abby heard him right outside in our yard! The sound is no longer comforting.

Halloween decorations will be going up soon. It’s strange to not be preparing a yard for trick or treaters. We are hoping to still put up some “spooky” surprises for those that drive by. I also have a bushel basket full of apples that don’t seem to be eating themselves. I’m becoming much more lax already- instead of always being in a hurry to do things I’m becoming more of an “Eh, it will get done some time” mindset. I’m not sure how I feel about that yet.

Our final veggies from the garden along with fresh eggs. Breakfast in a basket!
