This past week has been a busy one! We wrapped up a few things and have new plans on the calendar. Life around here is never dull!

We wrapped up combining this week. 2020 was a rough year on our farmers. We started with a wet Spring that quickly dried out into a long drought. Just as the ground was cracking and the plants were showing how thirsty they were- the Derechio hit. I’ll make a separate post on that later but essentially a land hurricane came right through our area. Amongst damage that was so incredible, it literally wrecked our fields. Corn was laying flat, just snapped. sometimes when a tornado comes through, corn will pop back up but in this case it wasn’t possible. We were able to start in the fields sooner than normal and we ended much sooner than normal. Corn and beans were so dry. We still have a lot of field work to do but the winds have been so strong, we don’t want to risk a fire. With the end of field work coming, we are very excited for our tradition of a “Fall Dinner Party” where we pull out the fancy dishes, wear nice clothes and have a celebration for the fields being done for the year!

We also finished up the Volleyball season. We are very proud of our girl and how she did this season. It wasn’t easy walking in as the new girl- she for sure walked out on the last day with so much more confidence!

Finally, the biggest event this week was the little one’s 9th birthday. He finally knew that this week was his birthday- he usually refers to his birthday as “Fall”. So to celebrate his last week of being 8 we did some fun things like visiting the pumpkin patch, eating apple cider donuts for breakfast, having a pizza party and preparing for his birthday. We celebrated with a visit from my parents, inviting his best friend over for the day, visiting the Science Center and having ice cream on the way home. It was a great day for everyone!

Everything is a season. Whether it be volleyball, farming, or watching your baby march towards the double digits- nothing stays the same! There are some days where you just aren’t sure you’re going to get through it but at the end you look back and are so thankful and proud. Bittersweet.
